What is paint correction and why it should be done?
Paint correction is the process that removes scratches, swirl marks, water spots, etching marks from bird feces and bug splatter, paint defects, etc. It should be done to improve the look of the vehicle. Paint correction ensures that your vehicle’s surface is properly prepared for ceramic coatings, sealants and waxes. The coatings will bond to the clearcoat better thereby making it more durable and last longer. Typically, you’ll hear the terms, “compounding, polishing and buffing” but these are all fall under what paint correction involves.
Will my paint look brand new again?
Yes, however, results will depend on the age and condition of the vehicle. Paint correction can achieve near-flawless results. However, a lot of variables must be considered. The year of the vehicle is a major part. A very old car that has been treated poorly and has a lot of scratches, swirl marks and other defects will make it very difficult to achieve 100 percent results. If you want flawless results, this will usually entail more time and a higher price point.
What is wet sanding?
Wet Sanding is the process of removing a small layer of clearcoat via high-grit sandpaper to smooth the surface and increase accuracy of reflection. Keep in mind that sanding will not completely harm your vehicles clear coat system. It’s simply a different method of achieving show room shine.
Vehicle maintenance plays a big role in how much sanding can be performed on the vehicle. Older vehicles are less likely to achieve a 100 percent flawless correction as the clear coat has experienced much more deterioration over the years. It is more of a risk to perform paint correction because the clearcoat is likely thinner than newer vehicles, but we use a Paint Thickness Gauge to ensure there is enough clearcoat to safely work with. When a car is newly painted, there are situations where an “orange peel” effect is created. Vehicles have been known to come right out of the factory with this problem. What are the options of paint correction?
$90 per hour. Time can range from 3 hours to 40 hours of paint correction depending on the vehicle.
